Effective 9/29/20, FMCSA is modifying the hours of service regulations (HOS). They include:
Short Haul Exception – Drivers can lengthen their work day from 12 to 14 hours and increase their operating radius from the current 100 air-mile radius to 150 air-miles.
Adverse Driving Conditions Exception – The driving window for adverse weather or traffic conditions will be extended an additional two hours, in addition to the two extra driving time hours already allowed.
30-Minute Break Requirement – Drivers can now satisfy the break requirement after an 8-hour driving window through any combination of allowable non-driving activities like off-duty, in sleeper berth, or on-duty, not driving, provided they occur over 30 consecutive minutes.
Split Sleeper Berth Period – Drivers can now split their 10-hour off-duty period into separate periods, as long as one off-duty period is at least 2 hours long and 7 consecutive hours are spent in the sleeper berth.
