Q: I’m working on a home-expansion project. Should I wait until the project is completed to insure my new addition?

Answer:

Actually, as soon as you decide to start the project is the time to contact us! Depending on the scope of the project, you may need additional coverage when starting renovations.

When your current home policy was written, coverages were noted for the features your home had at that point in time. Therefore, if you were to add a third bathroom and not notify us, any potential claim would be paid based on the coverage of your two-bathroom home.

Another reason for contacting us prior to starting your project is to ensure that you are not unintentionally voiding your homeowner’s insurance contract. Some companies require special endorsements for major renovations—or they do not cover renovations at all—at which point we would want to place coverage with a company that does cover homes during renovation seasons. Regardless of how big or small your project may be, its best to check with us! We are here for you and a quick call can bring you peace-of-mind.

I would also recommend making sure you have adequate liability coverage and look into adding an umbrella policy for additional coverage. In the event of a lawsuit – if a non-family member is injured on the trampoline – an umbrella policy can provide extra protection.
