Q: What is event insurance? Do I need it for my wedding?
A: Event insurance provides liability coverage for injuries or property damage you become responsible for, as a result of your event. For example, if one of your guests slips on the dance floor you may be responsible for their medical bills - though your property policy may also cover you.
Usually the venue will ask to be listed on the policy, which may not be covered on your property policy. The event insurance does allow for this and also provides you with coverage separate from your home or renters insurance policy. The venue will also typically ask for a minimum $1,000,000 coverage, which is where most policies start.
