Q: Are custom parts and equipment—such as custom wheels and tires—covered on my auto policy?

October 18, 2018

Answer:

The personal policy is designed to cover factory installed items that are permanently fixed to the vehicle. Aftermarket items such as custom paint jobs, aftermarket wheels, or truck toppers may not be covered. Therefore, we recommend that you contact your agent and review the endorsement to include custom equipment in the event of a loss.

Additionally, some custom equipment may not be covered under the standard personal auto policy. Examples include performance parts that alter the vehicle use and alterations to the frame or body that make the vehicle unsafe for regular road use. Again, please contact your agent with any questions.
