Buckland Insurance Agency

The Buckland Insurance Agency was established in 1979 by Gary Buckland. Gary was born and raised in the Delton area. Gary spent nearly ten years farming before going to work for the John TerAvest Agency in Battle Creek, MI. In 1979, after working in the insurance field for ten years, he felt the time was right to open his own agency in Delton. Gary wanted to provide insurance services in his hometown community. Gary’s son, Patrick joined the agency in 1991, after graduating from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. In 1997, the Buckland Agency grew, opening an office in Hastings to better serve our customers.

Patrick continues to lead the Buckland Insurance Agency and continues to emphasize the same beliefs into the daily operation of the agency as his father once did. With a vision to provide quality insurance services to customers, increase abilities and knowledge through education and evaluation, and continue to maintain a good working relationship with customers, companies and the community.

In 2025 the Buckland Insurance Agency became part of BHS Insurance. BHS Insurance (formerly known as Berends Hendricks Stuit Insurance) is a locally managed agency that traces its West Michigan heritage back to 1938. The agency headquarters is located in Grandville, but they have several offices around West Michigan.

Buckland Insurance Agency chose BHS Insurance as a partner because we feel that our two agencies share a common culture and a common heritage. We are both dedicated to excellent customer service, passionate about going the extra mile for our clients, and believe that integrity is a value that must be adhered to daily. BHS also offers access to additional markets and services that will now be available to our clients. 

You will see some minor changes as we move forward with the merger. What is really important is what will not change. Our entire staff has joined BHS including our agents, account managers, and service team members. We are staying in our current locations. There will be no disruption to our phone and email service; although, we will begin using our new BHS email addresses. Your message to the former Buckland Insurance email address will be forwarded to our new system.
