Bartz/Rumery Agency

In February of 1967, the Bartz Agency purchased the oldest insurance agency in Allegan, known as the Updyke Agency which was originally established in 1871.

The Rumery Agency was founded in 1912 by Sib Rumery – it was subsequently owned by Weldon Rumery (1945), Harry Tibbitts (1975) and current co-owner Phil Siegler (1985). The agency then merged with Bartz in 1989 making lifetime Allegan residents, Phil Siegler and Jan Morgan, the owners of the new Bartz/Rumery Agency and offering 50 years of combined experience.

Bartz/Rumery has grown and evolved, but we still hold tightly to the values, quality of service, and tradition of excellence that helped shape us from the beginning. If you have never done business with us before, give us a chance. You will not only experience the pride we have in this industry, but we will get to know each other and develop a relationship that goes beyond forms and numbers.

In 2026 Bartz/Rumery Agency became part of BHS Insurance. BHS Insurance (formerly known as Berends Hendricks Stuit) is a locally managed agency that traces its West Michigan heritage back to 1939. The agency headquarters are in Grandville, but they have several offices around West Michigan.

Bartz/Rumery Agency chose BHS Insurance as a partner because we feel that our two agencies share a common culture and a common heritage. We are both dedicated to excellent customer service, passionate about going the extra mile for our clients and believe that integrity is a value that must be adhered to daily.

We will remain in our current location and there will be no disruption to our phone and email service; although we will begin using our new BHS email addresses. Your messages to the old Bartz/Rumery Agency email address will be forwarded to our new system. Our same dedicated team is here for you like always; in addition, you may have communications from the BHS Insurance team when we need back-up. We want to make sure someone is always available when you call!

With the new BHS support and extra services in place, we will be able to fully focus on our customers while the BHS team takes care of the operational needs.
