Q: Help! I accidentally hit a parked car and I don't want it to impact my clean driving record. What are my options?

November 29, 2018

Answer:

We all know that Michigan is a no-fault state. However, when a moving vehicle hits a parked car, the parked vehicle is covered under the property damage section of the at-fault vehicle’s insurance policy. This type of accident would be considered an at-fault accident for the driver of the moving vehicle and would be reflected on policy renewals.

If you choose not to submit the claim to your insurance carrier, you can pay for the damages out-of-pocket. In this case, damages would include the repair of the parked vehicle as well as any replacement/rental vehicle needed while the damaged vehicle is being repaired. This option may help you avoid having a negative impact on your clean driving record!
